I've only played Magic the Gathering a handful of times.  Some of my closest friends and family members love the game.  All of them are great guys who wouldn't hurt a flea.  However, while playing Magic the Gathering, there has been swearing, accusations of cheating, and other inappropriate comments between players.  Am I missing something?  Are the rules too vague?  I hate conflict...

The rules aren't vague, it's just that the game is SO complex, that debates are common. We hold weekly tournaments at my store, and for the most part, things stay pretty civil.

I think where most issues with Magic originate is that people try to interpret the cards when they should just take them literally and as written. There aren't typos.

So, I still need to make a new deck...

I'm thinking this combo:

Green and Black with a little bit of White.

... thoughts? suggestions? insults? I'm open to whatever!

Basically a rehash of the PM I sent you, but

Green and white was the last multi-color deck I put together. It works well, but green and black is the way to go.

Red and blue make a good offense... red is filled with instants and interrupts, not to mention many cards pack a wollup. The blue creatures are also rather powerful for their casting cost, IMO.

I use a X-Mas deck often (green and red). Green is my fav deck, and red is a guilty pleasure that doesn't require too much strategy.

Black is the most fun to play. White is the least fun for me. Ask this question in the forum and I'll add to this, but I'm getting sleepy now.

Welcome back! I have a lot of posts to respond to!

Cool.

I think I'm going with Green and Black with some White tossed in there. I like creatures and then beefing them up and trampling all over people. Then using cards to get rid of my opponents creatures so they're defenseless except for spells.

Any cards you can think of that I could get that grant trample to creatures? Like an enchantment or something?

I started playing with 4th Ed and Ice Age. I think that was the height of of the game as it was simple and brutal.

I stopped playing after Mirage, but came back briefly during the Onslaught set. Now my favourite deck is a green one that is a hybrid of the Max Attack pre-made deck.

I tweaked it so I could cast a 9/14 worm that used white, without having white manner in the deck.

Throw in an Ancient Ooze... And viola!!

If you want a trample card, use Dragon Teeth from the Onslaught set. 1 + 1 Green gives +1/+1 and trample.

LOL.

I thought of OVerrun, but it is a sorcery card, and a lot more expensive!

Though, it is a fantasic 'end game' card.

My last two major MtFleecing, er, er, MtG decks were:

Disciple of the Vault + Artifact Recycle (and an Atog Variant)
Ornithoper, Dross Scorpion, Soul Forge, Disciple of the Vault, something to sacrifice the Ornithopers to...

Myr Juggernaut Deck
Random artifact things, the equipment that gave +1/+0 for each artifact of yours in play, the equipment that gave Double-Strike and the last equipment that gave trample... took about 4 rounds to get everything out and you could hit them for 15 trample double-strike...

Now I'm a dedicated VTES player... MtG felt too much like WOTC/Hasbro were milking me for cash like a prize cow...

No, you're thinking of Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh... these were clearly games where whoever had the most expensive cards winds. I've blown away some rich decks in my day armed with flying goblins and bears, with an occasional fireball when needed.

MtG Still runs the Core + 3 Themes as legal tournament play structure.  So every 2 years or so, my collection becomes effectively kitty-litter.

VTES: Every card printed except for a specifically chosen 11 or so cards are legal.  15 years of printed cards are all still valid for play.  I can feel very confident that the couple of thousand dollars spent on about 10,000 cards will not be rendered entirely useless in 6-24 months time.  Plus, I got tired of the "Duel Tournament"... ended up feeling like either an elaborate mexican standoff or Russian Roulette with a round-robin attached.

Just be careful... more than two colors indicates you really know what you're doing; otherwise you'll be shooting yourself in the foot!
